The primary vehicular access to the site will be from two points on Pulley Lane. The western access will involve the diversion of the road into the site to reduce impact on existing properties on Pulley Lane and beyond.

The junction with the A38 and Pulley Lane will be signalised and locally widened to two lanes in each direction to accommodate development traffic. 

The scheme has been designed to allow bus access into the site. This will be achieved by re-establishing the junction of Newland Road with Primsland Way for a pedestrian/cycle and bus only link.  This will involve widening the corridor to 7m to allow segregation of bus and pedestrian / cycle movements.  The route will also be lit and a new signal crossing on Primsland Way introduced to improve pedestrian crossing facilities. 

A new bus service will be introduced to serve the site, on a 20 minute frequency, from the town centre.  A minor change to service 19 is proposed to make the route shorter and therefore more attractive.  A significant proportion of existing residents will also benefit from the improved bus service. 

The movement strategy for the site includes:

  • A hierarchy of routes to aid way-finding through the site.
  • Active frontage onto streets and spaces provide natural surveillance.
  • Connections to existing to local foot and cycle routes, and nearby bus stops, enhanced and integrated with Public Open Space.
  • A new bus route running through the site.
  • Newland Road (forming part of the Sustrans designated NR45) will be upgraded and form a pedestrian/cycle/bus route that will access and egress onto Primsland way. There will be a vehicular prohibition order for southern section of Newland Road.
